Inversion on the Raiz Chain: The Suicide Variation

What is the difference between a SideSwipe and a SuicideSwipe?

A sideswipe is a Raiz + Swipe that lands in hyper. A SuicideSwipe is technically the same thing. The difference however is the amount of inversion. See, when trickers do a Gumbi, the "root" trick of the Raiz chain, they are usually fully inverted, or at least, they are within 45° of completely inverted. However, when transitioning to harder level Gumbi variations, they lose inversion and the trick becomes like a flatspin(Butterfly, Spyder, Janitor) or a laid back cheat kick. When it comes to Snapu's especially, most perform it like a laid back 540 Gyro. Some do their RaizTwist with so little inversion that they even decided to make a new name for it: Cheat 720 twist. A suicide stays on its invert axis. Rather than becoming a laid back cheat kick, it becomes a Gumbi variation. A SideSwipe is like a laid back 540 kick. A SuicideSwipe is done like a no-handed Gumbi Swipe.

With this in mind, technically, all suicide Raiz variations are "true" Raiz variations. The regular SideSwipe, Sailor Moon, and Snapu are in actuality incorrect. The reason why these exist is that they're way easier to combo in and out of. I don't necessarily hate these "fake" Raiz variations, they 100% have their purpose and as far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier! That's what Tricking is all about! If anything, Raiz is originally a capoeira move, and in capoeira, they don't actually invert fully. So having a flatspin-like Raiz isn't actually wrong. But at the same time, their Gumbi is different from the tricking Gumbi as well and we don't say that the tricking Gumbi is wrong.

Gumbi
So how do suicide tricks fit into the system/chain? Well, you have to start looking at all Gumbi variations. The suicide inversion on a gumbi is already impplied as you need to be fully upside down to have both hands on the ground. Here's a list of a couple Gumbi equivalents to no-handed suicide tricks:

Gumbi Swipe - Suicide Swipe
Gumbi Twist - Suicide Raiz Twist
Gumbi Snapu - Suicide Snapu

Sailor Moon
This also applies to Sailor Tricks. Sailor tricks are Gumbi variations where the first hand slaps the ground on take-off

Sailor Moon - Suicide Moon(I like to call it a Tuxedo, as in Tuxedo Mask from the sailor moon anime, but that's just me XD)
Sailor Twist - Suicide Sailor Twist

Note that there are tricks like Sailor Moon Gumbi where the hand maintains contact throughout the trick. However, the inversion/suicide is already implied as it travels like a gumbi.

TD Raiz
In theory, you can add the suicide prefix to TD Raiz variations, but it's kinda weird and for some may sound redundant, as some believe that the inversion is already implied.

TD SideSwipe - Suicide TD SideSwipe

Finally, here's a list of random Raiz variations and their suicide equivalents just for fun!

Windex(Raiz HyperHook) - Suicide Windex(I call it a Clorox)
Cali Roll(Raiz DoubleTwist/Cheat 1080 Twist) - Suicide Cali Roll(I say, Dynamite Roll)
Graham Cracker(Raiz Twist HyperHook) - Suicide Graham Cracker(IDK what to call this. Maybe like a S'more or something)

Now, you may be wondering if the Suicide variation applies Exclusively to the Raiz chain. You can't use it for Butterfly tricks because then it would just be an Aerial variation. You might be able to use it for Janitor but then it would be a Punch Brandy or something(not a Barani btw). I do, however, think it may be usable for Spyder Tricks, as the movement pattern is quite unique. I'll probably address this in a later post.

Some may also see Swipes on the Suicide axis as Flashes instead of Swipes. Kinda like how there are GrandMaster Swipe and GrandMaster Flash. Also how we have Gainer Flash. Personally, I think it's best to just call these Swipes, for now, I'll be sure to address Raiz + Flash variations in the future.

As always, this is all my opinion and the way I like to name and categorize tricks. I'd love to hear all your thoughts and suggestions in the comments.
